It’s Okay If It’s Not The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

It gets to this time of the year and there’s always a whole lot of talk about it being “the most wonderful time of the year.” However, for a lot of people, Christmas is hard. It’s a time that reminds them of those that aren’t there with them. Christmas reminds them of all that they’ve lost. The holiday season can generally be a hard time of year for a lot of people. If any of that resonates with you, please know this; it’s okay if it’s not the most wonderful time of the year.

It’s okay to feel things at Christmas

Christmas isn’t a time when we have to automatically forget everything that we’ve got going on in our lives. It’s not a time where all negative emotions have to be thrown out of the window to make room for the holly jolly. Christmas. It’s okay if at Christmas things are too much for you. It’s okay if you feel overwhelmed by everything you’re facing. Christmas isn’t the magic antidote to all the problems you’ll ever face in your life. It’s okay if things aren’t magically better just because it’s Christmas. If you need to feel things then that’s perfectly okay.

If Christmas brings up bad memories…

For some people, Christmas rakes up memories from the past that they’d rather forget. Whether that’s memories of loved ones lost, relationships fallen apart, trauma experienced or whatever else. Christmas can be a ridiculously hard time of year for so many people. If you’re one of those people, I’m sorry. I’m sorry that Christmas is hard for you. I can’t imagine what it is that you’re going through. If Christmas brings up memories that are too hard for you to experience, then you don’t have to celebrate. You don’t have to celebrate if it’s too painful for you. Put your own mental health first over the pressure to celebrate the holiday season.

There’s help available if you need it

  1. Some great advice. I can be a difficult time of year for many. It’s just best to do your own thing and take one day at a time if you struggle with this time of year

Living Your Best Life

I used to think that my life was pretty great – nothing was going wrong, I had a good job, great friends, and no major stressors. The only problem was that I was just letting time slip by me without being proactive, or intentional, about what I was doing with my life. I was living a life but I was not living my best life. This revelation was a life-altering for me.
