What’s better than on a cold evening, snuggling up on the sofa with your little ones and watching a film? Sometimes it’s hard to know what to pick, so I’ve made a list of films you won’t want to miss out on!
Best movies for toddlers
- A bugs life
- Charlotte’s Web
- How to train your dragon
- Small foot
- A Storks Journey
- Frozen
- Moana
- 101 Dalminations
These films seem to hold my toddlers attention throughout the whole film, great if you need to get other things done. I’ve also noticed that toddlers like to watch the same films over and over, not sure why exactly but I think they like to learn the story and they love all the songs!
Best films to watch together
- Toy story (you could even have a Toy story weekend)
- Big Hero 6
- Over the hedge
- The Grinch
- Coco
- Wreck it Ralph
- The Polar Express
- The Muppet Christmas Carol
- The Star
- The Nutcracker and the four realms
Grab some popcorn and hot chocolate and snuggle up on the sofa together for these films. I’ve picked these for toddlers and children under 6 as it can be hard to get them to sit through a whole film. I’ve also picked these for the parents too as they probably are not ones you watch all the time, and are not ones your sick of watching!
Great family films for older Children
- Karate Kid
- Harry Potter (Have a Potter weekend!)
- The Lego Movie
- The nightmare before Christmas
- Elf
- Santa Clause 1, 2 and 3
- Fred Claus
- Jack Frost
- The Princess Switch
- The Christmas Chronicles (Available on Netflix)
- Christmas with the Kranks
There’s some really great films in this list, and some even I haven’t got around to watching yet.
What films do you love watching this time of year, is there any you would add to this list?

Such great suggestions! One of my favourite Christmas films is ‘A Christmas Princess’ it’s such a brilliant family friendly film!
Elf and Fred Claus are two of my favourites! My 4 (meet 5) year old loves spooky things, so I think I’ll introduce him to The Nightmare Before Christmas this year. A couple of new ones there for me to look up too!
These are some great suggestions – a Toy Story weekend sounds like the best idea! I also love how you’ve included A Bug’s Life, it’s one of my favourite Pixar films!
